Women’s Wear Daily: Biodiversity ‘Imperative At This Year’s Textile Exchange Conference

Jeanne Carver spoke at last month’s Textile Exchange conference in Dublin, Ireland, about how Shaniko Wool Company is conducting research with its Farm Group producers on carbon sequestration and biodiversity support, with their first-of-its-kind Carbon Initiative.

We’ve created the Carbon Initiative to determine our net carbon budgets and measure our carbon sequestration. We developed the research model at Imperial Stock Ranch, the first producer member of Shaniko Wool, and have now moved measurement across all producer members who collectively graze 1.5 million acres. With credible and verified data and findings, the initiative will influence future management decisions, while supporting the environmental and economic value of sustainable and regenerative ranching practices.

Our hope is that this initiative will strengthen the efforts of family ranches, helping them remain on the land, working with the ever-increasing challenges, and delivering the harvests that both provide for our needs and ensure the future.
