ABOUT

Connecting American wool and U.S. manufacturing to American designers and brands, while improving the health of our land and ecosystems.

THE STORY

In 2017, the Imperial Stock Ranch located near Shaniko, Oregon became the first ranch in the world to be RWS certified. The Carvers chose to pursue RWS certification in response to the growing demand for certified wool by leading apparel and home fashion brands whom they had been working with. As inquiries continued for certified wool, they were the inspiration to create Shaniko Wool Company, in order to scale the economics and supply of RWS-certified U.S. wool available to brands.

Shaniko Wool Company is a branded and certified program of American Merino wool. The wool comes from Merino and Merino/Rambouillet sheep raised in the Western U.S.

FULLY TRACEABLE, CERTIFIED WOOL

Sustainability is more than a trend for us—it’s been a way of life for decades, and necessary to ensure our future on the land as stewards of its soil, water, grasslands and the grazing animals vital to its health.

With a double NATIVA Regen + RWS certification, our wool is traceable and 100% transparent. Raising the bar for sustainable wool sourcing in the country, we are building on regenerative farming practices that promote healthy ecosystems and preserve biodiversity for current generations, and those to come.

A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND CARBON INITIATIVE

We’ve created a Carbon Initiative to determine our net carbon budgets, and measure carbon sequestration and GHG emissions.

With credible and verified data and findings, the initiative will influence future management decisions and support the environmental and economic value of sustainable and regenerative ranching practices. Oregon State University is conducting the ongoing research for this initiative, and providing critical evidence of our impacts on nature.
